Time Trials and God’s Perfect Timing

I have been enthralled with the Olympics the past number of days.  Ok… maybe even addicted.  By far my favorite sports of the Olympic games are the ones that are timed.  I love how the top winners many times come down to split seconds from each other.  Many athletes train for years under “time trials” and it comes down to a single race in the Olympics waiting for a “perfect timing.”

Have you ever struggled with God’s timing?  I mean I know His timing is perfect.  I read it in His Word.  But, at times our lack of patience and even lack of trust become very difficult as we wait on God.  As doors of opportunity close just as fast as they open, we are left waiting on God.   But, while we wait, our faith is tested through “time trials” and in the process, our faith is strengthened and prepared for God’s perfect timing to come.

Just when you feel all hope is lost and there is no way.  God has a way and will always make a way.  And when His perfect time comes, you may understand the pain, frustration and endurance it took to push through the “time trials” of life. Just like an Olympic athlete that has been waiting for that perfect time to manifest itself with Olympic gold.

Let me encourage you to keep waiting on God, while doing what you can do to push through the time trials of life and trust God to do what he said He will do all in His perfect timing.  There will be gold waiting for you in heaven.

Birds In My Head

Some baby woodpeckers have taken up residence the past few weeks inside my birch tree overlooking my deck.  They have been singing God’s praises around the clock at the top of their tiny little bird lungs (question… do birds have lungs?)

So, confession time… I may or may not appreciate their musical genre and I may or may not have tried to scare them away earlier than their scheduled flight plan allows and I may or may not have hired someone to help me “take care” of these birds… but I digress.  The bottom line is that the birds are very much alive and well and they are still singing God’s praises… especially “in my head”

I asked myself this morning, what caused these birds to get in my head enough to bother me.  Are they not part of God’s wonderful creation?  By the way, it was ironic that the lesson scheduled this past weekend in our preschool ministry environment was titled “God made the birds of the air and the fish of the sea.”  Again… I digress.

A little birdy told me one time that sometimes God’s Creation can be difficult, even bothersome.  I know we all have had moments when God’s beautiful creation of human beings have become what could appear as difficult to deal with.  LIke that neighbor who decides to cut the grass at a time when no human being should be awake.  Or the friend who seems to take more than they give or the mother in law that… should I go on?

As I reflect on the birds that “got in my head” the past couple weeks, I am reminded of the grace that was and is extended to me on a daily basis through Jesus.  I am reminded of the grace I need to extend to others and I am thankful for the grace others give me when I become difficult and even bothersome to deal with.  Let’s face it, God’s creation can be difficult at times.  We all need grace. That is why for now, I will extend grace to the birds in my tree and listen to the birds sing “Amazing Grace” at the top of their little birdie lungs. I just may sing along.

Growing Grass

I am trying to grow some grass in my front yard and those who know me well know I do not have much of a green thumb.  But nonetheless, I scattered some grass seed a few weeks ago knowing full well it was a long shot to see anything coming up from the ground based upon my gardening experience.  To my surprise, some small blades of grass are slowly creeping up from the ground.  I know… I was surprised too.

With that being said, I can’t help but think about the seeds of faith we spread daily as we do our best to live out an example of what it means to be a Christ follower.  I also can’t help but think of the conscious effort of so many people who dropped seeds of faith and God’s love into my life at such a young age.  I am forever grateful.

Working in children’s ministry for over 15 years now, I have had the privilege to see some of the seeds that I have planted develop and grow from young children to teenagers and even young adults that are doing amazing things for God.  There is nothing more rewarding in ministry.

I admit sometimes though, I doubt if the things I am planting today into the hearts of young children will take root and grow.  Sometimes there are days when I ask myself if anything will come of this.  But,  I do know God’s Word is faithful and true.  So, I will continue to plant.  Even though sometimes I may not see anything right away, I believe there will be a day when God’s Word “germinates” inside the heart of a child and they begin to grow into the fullness of God’s plan for their life.

Meanwhile, I will watch the grass grow in my front yard and thank God for the opportunity to plant seeds of faith in young lives trusting they will take root and grow.

Great quote from Robert K. Greenleaf

Foresight is the ‘lead’ that the leader has. Once he loses this lead and events start to force his hand, he is leader in name only. He is not leading; he is reacting to immediate events and he probably will not long be a leader. There are abundant current examples of loss of leadership which stems from a failure to foresee what reasonably could have been foreseen, and from failure to act on that knowledge while the leader has freedom to act. [Robert K. Green leaf - The Servant as Leader]

There is nothing wrong with wanting to be GREAT.

When he was in the house, he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest. Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
Luke 9:33-35

God… I want to be great!  I choose to serve to show your greatness within me.

REMODEL

We are doing some remodeling these days and although our house is torn apart on the inside it appears on the outside that everything is just business as usual for the Klinersix.  Let me tell you that nothing could be further from the truth.

Just this morning I made my coffee in the living room on a plastic table.  Ten minutes later I warmed up my coffee in the microwave which was resting on a basket in that same room.  I then proceeded to the family room to open the fridge and finally to the bathroom to rinse my dishes.  Normal?

So… what’s my point?  I can’t help but think how hard we work to have everything appear “as normal” on the outside of our lives but on the inside things are “torn apart”.  We do a really good job keeping the appearance that everything is business as usual when nothing could be further from the truth.

I was also reminded this morning that the things which are torn apart on the inside of our lives, quite possible may be the things that God is using to create a very healthy spiritual remodel in our hearts.  Let me encourage you to let God use the chaos in your life to remodel your priorities and give you a fresh start.

So, for me I am going to live with a little chaos and mess in my home for now because I know what is coming soon.

God… use the chaos in my heart to restructure and remodel my life to please you and be presentable in your eyes.
